How to Ensure a Smooth Delivery
Most articles on the internet and elsewhere
describe the phase
of pregnancy and the process of delivery a tedious one. When in
reality, all you need to do is be calm, follow a healthy diet and ardently
follow your doctor's instructions to get through it all smoothly. A
well-balanced diet during pregnancy should comprise of proteins, vitamin C,
calcium, iron, folic acid and adequate fat.
Delivery as a
physiologic process, is simply designed. The body goes through numerous changes
during the last week of pregnancy. The cervix softens. There is release of
oxytocin and catecholamines during the process. Oxytocin facilitates the
separation and delivery of placenta. Women are blessed with motherly instincts.
They automatically get the urge to push the baby southward during labour. The
baby is born alert and calm with high levels of catecholamines and endorphins.
It is
important for you to be as calm and composed as possible during the delivery.
Remember, panic will only worsen the situation. It is okay to feel tensed and a
variety of other emotions during labour. The key to get through the anxiety is
to constantly tell yourself that you will get through it all smoothly. Nothing
works better than constantly encouraging yourself through it all. Tell yourself
that you made it through nine months of pregnancy [refer to the last link of the article to know more on the nine months of - Pregnancy journey] and you are
just a few hours away from the moment when you finally look at your baby's
face.
Make sure
someone close, preferably your partner, accompanies you during the delivery.
Also, make sure you do not have too many people around you during the delivery
as it may cause a lot of unnecessary chaos. It is very normal to throw up or
poop while you are delivering the baby. More often than not, you wouldn't even
come to know if you pooped because the nurses usually wipe it off before you
know.
Once you are
done delivering the baby, you would turn into an emotional wreck. At one moment
you would feel like a queen with all the attention you would get from the
people around you and the other moment you would want to be left alone with the
baby. It is okay to feel these emotions that are mostly indescribable. You
would drift from one mood to another and have no clue why. Remind yourself that
you have been through a lot of strain physically and mentally, and it is okay
to react in a certain way.
Do not
contemplate your delivery as
it will only make you more nervous than needed. Understand that a woman's body
is designed in a certain way so that she is able to endure the pregnancy pain.
There is no set way in which you can come to know your baby's due date.
However, there are many calculators available online to find out the tentative
due date, or your doctor can help you with the same.
Bringing a new
life into this world is a feeling one cherishes an entire lifetime. Make sure
you do not miss on the special moments that follow these nine
months of pregnancy guide.
